HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAAY) - A 14-year veteran teacher with Huntsville City Schools has been named the 2012 Outstanding High School Science Teacher.

The award comes from the Alabama Science Teachers Association (ASTA).

Chanda Davis received the honor at the ASTA Annual Conference held this past weekend at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

Every year, the organization recognizes various teachers who have demonstrated excellent qualities and contributions to science education.

The group awards one elementary, one middle, and one high school teacher with the honor.

Chanda Davis currently teaches Pre-AP Biology, Anatomy / Physiology, and AP Environmental Science at Huntsville High School.

Davis was recently recognized with the Presidential Award for Science and Math Teaching for Alabama and is the Biology Club Sponsor at Huntsville High.
