NEWARK, N.J. (WAAY) - A beagle who miraculously survived a dog pound gas chamber in Florence two years ago has come a long way.

On New Year's Day, Daniel the beagle will join seven other dogs on a float in the Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

Daniel was 2 years old when he was placed in a gas chamber at the Florence animal shelter with two dogs in October 2011. When workers opened the chamber, Daniel was waiting and wagging his tail while the other two dogs lay dead.

Daniel -- who was named after the biblical figure who survived the lion's den, was adopted by New Jersey motivational speaker Joe Dwyer.

The float daniel will ride on is sponsored by the Lucy Pet Foundation, which runs mobile spay, neuter and adoption clinics nationwide.
