COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WAAY) - Jeff Eddie, the former children's minister charged with sodomizing minors at a Muscle Shoals church, is requesting that his $1,030,000 bail be reduced.

A motion filed by Eddie's attorney Thursday in Colbert County Circuit Court claims Eddie, 41, doesn't have the money to post bail. The motion claims Eddie and his wife had less than $1,000 and he lost access to it when his wife filed for divorce Monday.

Eddie was arrested Sunday and charged with three counts of sexual abuse, 31 counts of sodomy and two counts of possession of child pornography. Authorities said Eddie confessed to engaging in sex acts with children in an electrical room at Highland Park Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals.

Church officials said Eddie is no longer a member of the church staff.

Eddie's attorney claims that since Eddie has lived in the community his entire life and can't afford the bail, the maximum $30,000 per sodomy charge should be reduced to the minimum of $5,000. The motion states Eddie would live with his mother in Leighton if he were released.

No action has been taken on the request.

Eddie is due in court for a preliminary hearing Feb. 18.
