Hometown: Birmingham, AL
Birthday: April 26
Hired at WAAY: June 2011
Family and Pets:
I live with my husband, Chris, and our sweet dog and cat. Our dog, Winnie, is a rescue from Oxford, Mississippi. We had her DNA tested and she is a “
Beagadore” (a Labrador-retriever and a beagle). Our cat, Hobbes, is a rescue from Decatur.
Hobbies:
I enjoy keeping up with my blog,
DrLill.com. I had to start a blog for Journalism 101, and I’ve kept it up ever since. It's basically turned into a collage of thoughts and pictures that make me happy. You should check it out!
Alma Mater:
I graduated form
The Meek School of Journalism and New Media at The University of Mississippi (
Ole Miss)! I graduated in 2011 with a degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in photography. HOTTY TODDY!
Most memorable interview or story:
I took at journalism class from fellow Ole Miss graduate,
Shepard Smith. He was an amazing teacher and really pushed all of us to be our best.
When I was in New York City, Shep helped me get a pass to Ground Zero! I got to interview some of the construction workers. It was so inspiring hearing how they felt “rebuilding America!”
Favorite musician:
Cher. I’ve loved her since I was six years old! If I could turn back time (wink, wink), I would love to go to a recording of
The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.
Favorite vacation spot:
Highlands, NC! I love the beach, but I get sunburned. I also love the lake, but I also get sunburned. The mountains are the best place for a redhead like me. :)
First TV appearance:
My first TV appearance was in
Ms. Flowers 9'th grade broadcasting class at MBJH! I was a co-anchor with this awesome guy named Fletcher Bailey. We did a morning newscast at 8:00am every morning. I think it was about a five minute show containing imperative information about the day; like the lunch menu, birthdays..etc.
It was in Flower’s class that I decided broadcast journalism was my dream job!
Role Model:
Diane Sawyer! I met her once. She is elegant, smart and fabulous.
Your dream job:
“What do you love so much you'd do it for free?
What's the most adventurous place you could go?
And does it help people?”- Diane Sawyer
...looks like I already have my dream job!
Favorite TV show:
At the moment, I'm loving The Walking Dead, Dexter and Breaking Bad.
Why do you like working in Tennessee Valley and at WAAY-31:
It’s a beautiful place and you can’t beat southern hospitality. Also, the people I work with are fun! I’m laughing all the time.
