Hometown: Florence, AL
Birthday: September 8th
Year Hired at WAAY: January 2012
Family, kids and siblings: My fiancé Adam and our two children—Diablo the cat and Tara the Pomeranian. Also, parents Elizabeth and Danny and 3 siblings Haley, Johnny and Dalton.
Family Pets: The children are not pets, they are family!
Hobbies: Shopping! It’s an addiction. Few things make me as happy as a new pair of shoes or a purse! Dance has always been a passion of mine. I also love to travel, especially on cruises.
Alma Mater: Jacksonville State University. Go Gamecocks!
Most Memorable Interview or Story: This is a very tough question and it is really hard to answer… but I think honestly it would have to be the story in which I climbed inside a mobile home which had been hit by a tree. This was right before the April 27th tornados—a bad storm ripped through Middle Georgia and threw a tree right into a home. I crawled inside, with my camera, to show how the tree had crashed through the roof inches from where the family was sleeping. It was scary but exhilarating at the same time. Looking back it may not have been that smart but telling that family’s story was one of my most memorable experiences.
I also had the opportunity to interview one of my role models Robin Meade about her new album. I was so excited and still can’t believe I got to meet her.
Role Model: (See above). I have watched Robin every morning for as long as I can remember. I also think Barbara Walters is amazing. That may be a cliché answer but it is true. I also look up to my grandmother, one of the strongest women I know.
Favorite Food: South of the border cuisine! If it is cheesy I love it.
Favorite Sports Team: ROLL TIDE!!!!
Favorite Musician: Stone Temple Pilots first and foremost but I really like all music. I especially like Classic and Alternative Rock.
Star Sign: Virgo. I am an organizer, a little obsessive, and according to the fiancé I like to be in charge a bit too much. I have no clue what he is talking about J
Favorite Vacation Spot: Anywhere a cruise is going. I think so far my favorite spot has been Jamaica.
First TV Appearance: I THINK it was when I was an intern in Birmingham. It was right before Halloween and they needed models to put on the hottest Halloween costumes of the year for the noon news. There weren’t many volunteers so of course the intern was picked--I put that witch costume on and posed with the best of ‘em.
Your Dream Job: I am living the dream. I have never wanted to do anything but the news so having the opportunity to work so close to my hometown, with a great team, and in a city I love is my dream come true.
Favorite TV Show: There really are too many to list so I will just name a few. I love Storage Wars, Toddlers and Tiaras (it’s just so crazy), Dexter, Game of Thrones (I am a bit of a dork), Homeland, Dance Moms, and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. My Sundays are dedicated to my programs.
Why do you like working in the Tennesee Valley and at WAAY 31: I love Huntsville. It is big enough to provide the amenities of a large city (like shopping) but small enough to still have character and charm.
Community Involvement : I just got back having lived in Georgia for a while but I hope to get involved soon! I am an alumna of Zeta Tau Alpha and hope to soon be involved with the Huntsville Alumni Chapter and Breast Cancer Awareness. THINK PINK!
