Veteran astronaut Chris Ferguson will hang up his space suit for good this week.

NASA announced today that Ferguson will retire on Friday. He's leaving the agency to take a job in the private sector. Ferguson is a retired U-S Navy Captain.

During his 13-year career with NASA, Ferguson went to space three times.

He commanded the final mission of space shuttle Atlantis in July, ending NASA's thirty-year Space Shuttle Program.

He and three crew mates delivered ten thousand pounds of supplies and equipment to the International Space Station during the 13-day mission.

Before that, Ferguson served as deputy chief of the Astronaut Office at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
