HARTSELLE, Ala. -- The Hartselle High School football team will be playing for a Class 5A state championship Thursday night.
But the Tigers have not reach this far on their own.
The band has been there every step of the way.
“In my opinion, a football game is not the same without the band,” Hartselle Majorette Megan Smith said.
Ninety-one students make up the Hartselle band, a band that has been in tune with every Tigers turnover and Tigers touchdown.
“It's pretty awesome, it's like no other,” trombone player Sam Vogt said. “It's like we're part of the team. It's not just 'we're the band nerds'.”
One of the main reason's Hartselle is “Final Round T-Town Bound” is it's great defense.
Part of that defense is the band getting loud at the right time with such songs as Darth Vader's Imperial March, Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes and when the defense is working all they do is win.
“When we play on defensive plays, we are part of the team's strategy,” Smith added. “I think it's great that the band plays that large of a role.”
“A lot times it gets false starts on the offense, they jump,” Vogt said.
That role will only increase when the band will has the challenge of getting loud in a 100-thousand seat stadium.
“As an Alabama fan, to play at Bryant-Denny Stadium is an incredible experience. It's just something, as a senior, I will remember forever,” Smith said.
Hartselle will take on Vigor Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Tuscaloosa.
