GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's high school sports association is asking the state Supreme Court to step in and help sort out which teams will play in the state football playoffs.
The Gadsden Times reports that the court rulings have left schools and fans confused about who will actually play in the playoffs when they begin Friday.
Lower courts have granted injunctions involving schools in the largest classification.
Top-ranked Clay-Chalkville High School went to court to try and overturn an Alabama High School Athletic Association ruling that it must forfeit all nine of its wins for competing with an ineligible player.
The association's decision, if it stands, would give Gadsden City High a shot at the state title. So the Gadsden school system filed its own court motion asking that the forfeits be upheld.
The decision affects Decatur's Austin High School. If the ruling stands, Austin will play Vestavia Hills at home. Right now, however, they're scheduled to play in Hoover right now if Clay-Chalkville is allowed to remain in the playoffs.
