GURLEY, Ala. – In the Madison County High School gymnasium, you will find Landon Fields trying to re-create what is simply known as "the shot".
The sophomore recently sank a full court bomb in a junior varsity game that has now gone viral on YouTube with nearly 4,000 hits.
“People that usually don't talk to me are coming up and congratulating me,” Fields said.
The Tigers were playing Albertville during the first week of February.
Madison County was losing by five points with one second to play with Albertville shooting a free throw. The game was basically over.
“I just had a feeling that he was going to miss it,” Fields said. “I reached down and got the rebound and landed right here [a foot from the baseline].
“Just out of frustration because we were going to lose anyways, just rear back and chunked it.”
Landon's remarkable shot may not be such a surprise. According to his peers, he actually practices this shot.
“Everyday Landon kind of practices around, shooting those shots or whatever,” student Megan Toney said. “One day he shot it and hit the backboard and it came back and hit me in the back of the head.”
“He told us one day, he's going to make it,” another student Jacob Perry added.
Landon did some research after he measured how far he shot it from.
“The longest recorded shot in a game is 92 feet,” Fields said. “Our court is 94 feet long and I was about a foot away from the line. So I very well could have the record of longest shot in a game.”
