There's a new pastry popping up in North Alabama. A tasty treat, you may have never heard of..... Or tasted.
" Now we make Kolaches."
There's a new place in Hampton Cove called Mr. Donut. They make donuts, but they also make something called a Kolache.
Wikipedia defines Kolache as a type or pastry with a fluffy dough and a fruit filling on the inside. But, not all kolaches are created equally, at Mr. Dounut they also make a kolache with meat on the inside.
" In Texas everybody knows about Kolache," said Richard So, owner of Mr. Donut.
They are big in parts of Texas, but the origins of this tasty treat is not Texas, it's the Czech Republic. Once you taste one, you might become a bit of a salesman, like I did while trying to get ready for my on camera pitch.
" You ever had one before?
6 Kolaches coming up.
Truly an international treat at Mr. Donut, when you consider the Czechoslovakia roots of this pastry, made by a Cambodian man, popularized in Texas, but now enjoyed by the people of North Alabama.
" Especially the people from the church, they like it."
