For most of us going to grandma's house as a kid was something we relished and enjoyed. Many times those memories involve food.
"Welcome to my Grandmothers House. This was my grandmother and grandfather's home, it was built in the 1920's," said Wenona Moorer, owner of Grandmothers House in Owens Crossroads.
Grandmothers House in Owens Crossroads is exactly what you would expect from a restaurant with that name. A warm and inviting atmosphere.
" When you come in the front door you enter what used to be the living room, just around the corner is the old dinning room and part of the kitchen."
The atmosphere warms your heart, but your stomach will thank you for the great southern cookin'.
" Homemade rolls out of the oven and ready to go." I'm going to cook what I want to and that's what I do. It's home cooking. We cook everything from scratch. We make all our desserts."
Speaking of desserts, while I was there Wenona put me to work cooking one of the house specialties. Caramel coconut pie.
If you are the one who gets the special pie, me and grandma made it just for you.
Ooooh this is a yummy looking mess, "mess" I mean mess in a positive way of course.
Catfish, pot roast, salmon patties, pork chops, chicken and dumplings and of course all the vegetables, just some of the great stuff on the menu every week. And, yes this is a family affair.
"My husband is on the cash register. My daughter in law keeps the books."
Her son and grandsons are also a part of the operation when needed.
