The 16 year old who was taken to Hartselle Hospital after being pulled from the water yesterday has died. Authorities say the boy may have panicked while swimming with friends in the quarry.

The Morgan County Search and Rescue team was called out Sunday afternoon before 4pm to reports of a drowning off Cedar Cove road in Hartselle.

After a 20 minute search the victim was pulled out of the water and taken to Hartselle Hospital.

No other information about the victim has been released.

The Decatur Daily reported Monday that five others have died at the quarry the most recent a 16-year-old from Falkville who drowned in May 1996 when he apparently suffered a cramp while swimming. The paper said four others died at the quarry between 1982 and 1996 including two 19-year-old Decatur boys in separate accidents in 1990. At least 3 of the deaths resulted from dives off the 40-foot limestone bluffs surrounding the water.
