WAAY 31 teams with local radio stations for canned food drive

WAAY 31 anchors and radio air staff will be on hand to accept donations of canned or boxed goods at Star Market in Five Points from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, November 17th.

WAAY 31, Star 99.1, Rocket 95.1 and The Beat 98.1 are teaming up together to host a canned food drive on Friday, November 17th from 6am until 6pm at Star Market in Five Points. All donations will benefit the Food Bank of North Alabama.

The Food Bank supplies 8 million pounds of food to homeless shelters, food pantries, soup kitchens and children’s programs across 11 counties in North Alabama. All combined, they feed over 80,000 people at risk of hunger.

The most needed items include canned meats and vegetables, peanut butter, canned soups, stews, chili and sauces. Other items needed are pasta, rice, stuffing mix, breakfast cereals as well as paper products. No “home-canned” items will be accepted.
