Albertville police involved in overnight shooting

The officers were shot at while checking out a group of people in a trailer park overnight, police said.

State authorities are investigating a shooting overnight where two Albertville police officers were shot at.

Albertville Police Department Assistant Chief Maj. Jamie Smith said two officers responded to Kilpatrick Trailer Park around 3 a.m. after someone called in about shots being fired.

The officers found a group of people in the park and one of them pulled a gun and started shooting, Smith said. The officers returned fire. No one was hit, Smith said.

More police were called in to lock the trailer park down.

One person of interest was in custody.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on leave, Smith said. The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
