TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- University of Alabama student John Brooks Pounders says he likes good news and wants to spread some happiness with a Web site.
The 22-year-old senior advertising major says he read up on Harvard professor Tal Ben-Shahar who teaches a class on happiness. He also has written books about how to be happy.
Following the professor's advice, Pounders is writing down five things each day that make him happy. And he's taken happiness a step further, launching ButterBeeHappy -- http://www.butterbeehappy.com -- a site where people can go to journal happy thoughts.
The new site, based on Ben-Shahar's research, promises users that they will be happier by simply jotting down five happy thoughts a day.
On the site, users create a journal for free where they can type out their thoughts. Users are also given their own customized 'widget' which lets them display their happy thoughts on their own blog, MySpace, Facebook or any other type of Web page.
A component of the site dubbed "The Honeycomb Navigator" links entries by keywords showing how different users are related.
Pounders launched the site in October and while ButterBeeHappy.com is a small online community, it's growing.
