After the tragedy last week at Discovery Middle School, there is some positive news to report.
WAAY 31 News has learned that two local men have received kidneys from Todd Brown, both are faculty members at Oakwood University.
The men have been identified as James Caldwell, the assistant dean at Holland Hall, and Dr. James Doggette. We're told both are doing well in Birmingham after surgery. Oakwood University released the following statement -
"Along with the rest of the Huntsville and Madison communities, Oakwood University was saddened at the news of Todd Brown's death over the weekend. We understand that the young man's family made the decision to donate Todd's kidneys to two members of the Oakwood family who were in need of transplants. Mr. James Caldwell, assistant dean in Holland Hall, and faculty member Dr. James Doggette, are both recuperating after successful transplant surgery. We ask that all remember to keep the family of Todd Brown in your prayers. Even through such a tragic loss, God can allow some good. We are sure that both families are grateful for the Brown's decision, in the midst of their loss."
Oakwood declined to give us pictures of the men, saying they were grateful, but wanted the community to focus on Brown and his family.
