NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Gov. Phil Bredesen will not consider clemency for a Nashville man set to be executed early next Wednesday.
Lydia Lenker, a spokeswoman for Bredesen, said Wednesday he will not intervene in the execution by lethal injection of 53-year-old Cecil C. Johnson Jr. at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution.
Johnson was sentenced to death for a triple slaying during a Nashville robbery in 1980.
He'll be the sixth person put to death in Tennessee since 2000. There were no executions between 1961 and 2000.
