Over the past several weeks, local lawmakers have teamed up with their constituents to fight against a proposed fuel depot to be built by Teppco. It would have gone right on the old Wolverine Tubing property, within a stone's throw of the intake for the city of Decatur's drinking water.
Residents were concerned that gasoline, diesel, bio diesel, ethanol and jet fuel being stored at the site could leak into the water. Teppco officials insisted their safety record was spotless, but local lawmakers countered that it only took one incident to ruin their water.
Late Thursday night, Teppco announced they were no longer going to seek to build on the property. They are still interested in building in Morgan County, but the site on the Tennessee River is now off their radar.
