Huntsville a Dangerous Military Town? "You Tell Us"

Posted:

The Rocket City has a ranking many may not be so happy about.

According to a recent survey by NeighborhoodScout says that the Patton Road area near Huntsville's Redstone Arsenal ranks number 2 as one of the most dangerous military neighborhoods.

Although violent crimes such as rapes and murders are relatively low in Huntsville, the survey takes into account all crime in the area. The survey says the Patton Road area has an estimated property crime rate of 691 per 1,000 residents.

Hawaii's Schofield Barracks ranks as number 1, Meridian Station in Meridian, MS is 5th.

NeighborhoodScout says the answer as to why areas such as Patton Road are so high in crime relate to the military. It says military bases have high numbers of young, single men living in close quarters. The survey also found that in most places where one finds high numbers of young, single men living together also is home to higher crime rates.

That brings us to today's "You Tell Us" question.

Does Huntsville deserves this ranking?
