DeKalb County Sheriff's deputies have busted up an apparent burglary ring responsible for a series of vehicle thefts. Several of the vehicles were ATV's.
Investigators say that six men were working together in Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia over the last few months. Charged are :
David Mark Tanner, 26, of Sylvania: 5 counts Theft of Property
Gary Dejuan Higdon, 22, of Valley Head: 4 counts Theft of Property, 1 count Burglary
Corey Don Robbins, 20, of Rainsville: 5 counts Theft of Property, 1 count Burglary
Jimmy Ray Walker, 27, of Sylvania: 2 counts Theft of Property
Jamie Ray Bates, 23, of Sylvania: 1 count Receiving Stolen Property, 1 count Theft of Property
Christopher Allen Guinn, 22, of Fort Payne: 1 count Theft of Property
Police say that they're still trying to match the stolen vehicles to their proper owners, and it's more difficult to match ATVs than cars, due to the fact that ATV's don't require vehicle identity numbers. They say this case should be a lesson to ATV owners to properly secure their vehicles, since there were several attempted thefts that were abandoned due to the owners chaining up their four wheelers.
