CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A judge in Chattanooga ordered a county school board member to do 57 hours of community service in a shoplifting case.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that Hamilton County Board of Education member Janice Boydston must do the community service with either the Chattanooga Food Bank or the Chattanooga Community Kitchen in connection with her July 2008 arrest.
Boydston never admitted guilt in the case and Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern granted pretrial diversion. That means the case will be expunged from Boydston's public record if she completes the community service.
Defense attorney Sam Robinson said Boydston is "happy" to perform the community service.
Boydston has said personal hygiene items must have fallen in her open purse while she was grocery shopping.
