An Alabama man serving time on death row has died before reaching the end of his sentence.
64-year-old David Larry Nelson died last night at Holman Correctional Facility in South Alabama.
Nelson was sentenced to die for two Birmingham murders back in 1978.
He had been on death row for more than 27 years, and managed to avoid two prior execution dates.
