JASPER, Ala. (AP) - Supporters of electronic bingo in Walker County are organizing efforts to get the bingo halls reopened after a judge in Birmigham ruled the machines illegal.
Hundreds of laid-off bingo hall workers and charity officials crowded into a building in Jasper on Thursday concerned about the future of bingo in the county. Herbie Brewer, a Jasper lawyer, said a hearing will be held Monday on a motion to stay the ruling while it is appealed.
Others planned to organize a demonstration by laid-off workers Monday at the Walker County Commission meeting.
