Decatur Smoking Ordinance

Posted:

One Decatur city councilman says he only has business owners' best interests at stake.

But, he realizes his proposal, which would allow smoking in public businesses, is controversial.

For the past four years, smoking has been banned in all Decatur businesses and public buildings.

However, Councilman Gary Hammon believes it's time to consider changing the rules.

Decatur city council members decided today to appoint a committee to do research, and then determine if there is enough interest within the city to change the smoking ordinance.
