Cellular South to acquire Ala. wireless provider

Associated Press - October 16, 2009 11:14 AM ET

RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) - Cellular South has announced plans to acquire Corr Wireless, based in north Alabama.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed Friday. The acquisition requires regulator approval, which Cellular South officials say should be completed in several months.

Corr Wireless of Oneonta, Ala., provides wireless communication services more than 30,000 customers in 18 counties of North Alabama and in Rome, Ga. It employs 130 people.

The area includes the cities of Huntsville, Madison, Decatur, and Gadsden, plus the counties of Blount, Cullman, Marshall, Dekalb and Jackson in Alabama.

Ben Pace, chief financial officer for Cellular South, says the acquisition shows that even during a tough economy, the Ridgeland, Miss.-based is continuing to grow its customer base and expand its service offerings.

Bryan Corr, president and CEO of Corr Wireless, says the partnership is a good fit for both companies.
