MOUNT VERNON, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a man shot and killed his wife and then killed himself with the same rifle.

Mobile County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles says Dana Byrd was shot three times Thursday after taking the couple's child to school. She says her husband Gilberto Manguia then killed himself with one shot.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene outside the trailer they shared west of Mount Vernon.

Myles says the couple had been married for more than five years and had a 4-year-old son. The boy is being cared for by relatives.
