Lauderdale County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested and charged a man in connection with a February shooting death.

39 year old Melissa Kenney Garrett was killed in her home on Harrison Road in Killen back on February 16th. At the time, a witness in the home told police that Garrett was threatening to kill herself, and that he tried to wrestle the gun away, but it went off. Garrett was shot in the head. However, as time went on, investigators say that story fell apart, and the evidence pointed to murder.

The man who told that story, 48 year old David Darryl Thompson, was indicted on murder charges earlier this month. He eluded capture for some time before he encountered deputies at a business on Wednesday. He surrendered without incident and is being held on $50,000 bond at the Lauderdale County jail.
