One Lincoln County man wants change.
His home recently burned to the ground, but he believes it could have been saved.
Ray Worrilow believes his home in Mulberry, TN may not have been destroyed if the fire hydrant just down the road worked.
He says it took firefighters an additional 20 minutes to get water from another hydrant.
According to the County Fire Chief, Mike Hall, hydrants are checked once a year by volunteer firefighters.
Ray says if they were checked once a month it would help keep the hydrants working properly.
"I was a volunteer firefighter in Maryland before I was disabled. The hydrants were checked every 30 days. I think every 30 days they should check the hydrants here also to make sure they're working. That water saves lives and houses," said Ray Worrilow.
The fire chief admits that if the hydrant was working it would have saved time in hauling the water but that no matter how often you check the hydrant it can break down anytime and more hydrants across the county would be more effective.
Ray Warrilow disagrees.
