Update on Wayne Farms Tuberculosis Meeting

Posted:

A WAAY 31 update on the outbreak of tuberculosis among workers at Wayne Farms in Albertville.

A meeting was held today with the mayors of Guntersville, Albertville, and Boaz, state representatives, school systems, and the Alabama Department of Health.

No Wayne Farms representatives attended the meeting.

As of last week, 31 employees tested positive for the disease, only one of them has an active strain.

30 of those employees will undergo second round of testing.

WAAY 31 spoke to the mayors of Boaz and Albertville.

Both men said it was a very productive meeting.

However, Albertville mayor, Lindsey Lyons, added that he was concerned that no one from Wayne Farms was at today's meeting.

He says that's bad because there are no real guarantees that the disease won't be spread any further.

Tuberculous is a disease caused by bacteria that primarily attacks the lungs.
