FLAG POND, Tenn. (AP) - Heavy localized rain has triggered flash flooding in mountainous East Tennessee, forcing about 50 families from their homes.
The Johnson City Press reported people left their homes late Thursday and early Friday in the Flag Pond area of southern Unicoi County.
The newspaper quoted Sheriff Kent Harris saying deputies waded through water to knock on people's doors to warn them of rising water and rescued some. Others left of their own accord.
No injuries were reported.
National Weather Service radar indicated the rain had moved out of the region by dawn Friday, but the forecast held a 60% chance of more rain, beginning Friday afternoon.
