BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A former Sullivan County school teacher has been charged with sexual battery by an authority figure.
The indictment was returned against 35-year-old William Joseph Seagroves of Jonesborough, who was arrested April 13, according to the Kingsport Times-News.
The indictment accuses Seagroves of criminal sexual contact with a 16-year-old student on May 23, 2008.
Seagroves became a math teacher and assistant track coach in January 2006 as part of a state program to bring professionals from other disciplines into the classroom. He had been a chemical engineer at Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin.
He resigned from Sullivan Central High School in October when a student filed a complaint against him with police.
