System One, Snow then Rain. System Two, Perhaps Snow
With the very surprise and unexpected snowfall that moved across the Tennessee Valley Monday morning, the expected weather event moved in and began melting away a blown forecast.
As the rain falls Tuesday morning, and continues to fall into Tuesday, the rainfall totals will range from 3/4" to 1 1'2" before the very cold air arrives Tuesday night. Late Tuesday, we'll see developing snow showers mostly in Northeast Alabama and Eastern Southern Middle Tennessee. There is a slight chance for small accumulations in Franklin, Moore, and Marion Counties into Wednesday morning. If you are planning travel north or northeast of Jackson County, you'll see delays and slick roadways.
After two cold days of clouds, sun, and cold temperatures, another southern tracking storm system will move into the Tennessee Valley and the rest of the Southeast. When it does, we'll see a chance for lightly accumulating snow in the Tennessee Valley, with seemingly increasing chances for heavier snows in Central and South Alabama than in North Alabama. This system is still days away, and bears watching. Figures that the most measurable snow we will have received so far this year from the one that was not forecast at all.
